Arianna Huffington

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She's written 15 books. She is also the co-founder the magazine The Huffington Post. Arianna Huffington is a journalist, writer, philanthropist and television host, and owner of The Huffington Post. Her birthplace was in Greece then moved to England when she was 16. In Cambridge University, she graduated with an MA of Economics. When she was 21, she became the president of the famed debate club The Cambridge Union' and was the first foreign student who was elected to this position. She became an author for a conservative newspaper after the graduation ceremony and, when The Huffington Post launched a few years following, she launched an online platform for voice with a critique of current political scenarios. The fame of her name helped in getting several high-profile contributors to share their opinions on politics news and culture. Arianna gained notoriety in 2003 when she ran as an independent in California recall election to succeed Governor Davis. In addition, she was the leader of a Detroit project to promote fuel efficient cars. Forbes identified her the most powerful female in the media industry in 2009. She ranked in the 12th spot on Forbes' list. The Guardian also included her on the top 100 list of media in 2009. AOL Inc. acquired The Huffington Post, and she was made president of the media company. This included many AOL products at that time, including Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. She was the daughter of journalist and management consultant Konstantinos and his wife Elli Stasinopoulos. Although she was a close friend with her father, it was her relationship with her mother that shaped her character. As a child she displayed leadership qualities that she still is known for. When she moved to England, she was sixteen to further her studies and was accepted into Girton College Cambridge. As a student she was a member of the Cambridge Union's college debating societies which she later became the first foreign and female president. Her graduation was in 1972 and she earned a Master's Degree in Economics. Her professional career as a journalist and television host started after her graduation. She was on the show with Bernard Levin on an edition Face the music, and she began writing the books she wrote with Bernard Levin's help.
