Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry kids who would grow in the same household, figured out very young how to overcome of her difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. She was writing songs before she could read or write. After getting her first guitar at age 8, she started performing at radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. Her first album was recorded during the same year Gold Band Records, a small independent label. Although she became a local star while in high school, her dreams were much bigger. After she finished her high school, in 1964, she relocated to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated show on TV in the late '60s, was looking for a girl to sing for his show. Parton signed with RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974, when her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton wrote I Will Always love You in honor of Wagoner after their breakup. It made it to No. For the first time, in 1974.
